I am a Licensed Private Investigator (license #25411); Nationally Certified as a Criminal Defense Specialist. As an investigator, I have worked cases from Homicide to DUI; Personal Injury to Work Place Violence and Class Actions.
I have been appointed by Governor Swarzenegger and reappointed by Governor
Brown to the State of California's Bureau of Security and Investigative Services,
Disciplinary Review Board. I have also served four terms as the Sacramento District Governor for the California Association of Licensed Investigators. I also sit on the Board of Directors for the Ascend Program. Ascend is an alternative sentencing non-profit geared to teaching inmates a "pro-social lifestyle" which in turns lowers the chances of reoffending.
Presently as a Defense Investigator, I work Homicide cases in State and Federal Court. These cases are with and without special circumstances. My role in homicide investigations has been both as a factual and as a mitigation investigator. I have worked on dozens of fraud and narcotics cases in Federal Court. As a Federal Defense Investigator, my cases have been for the CJA Panel and privately retained attorneys in the Eastern and Northern Districts of California.
I retired as a Sergeant from the Placer County Sheriff's Department. I am also retired from a part-time position with the State of California as a Sworn Police Officer for the California State Fair Police Department.
While with the Placer County Sheriff’s Department, I was assigned to the Special Operations Unit. While assigned to Special Operations, I investigated or assisted in the investigation of hundreds of Marijuana sales and cultivation cases. These cases included indoor and outdoor cultivations. I was also assigned to the Placer County Special Investigations Unit (SIU). SIU was an interagency task force supervised by the California Department of Justice, Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement (BNE). While assigned to SIU, I continued to investigate major narcotic cases of all kinds.
I was the Sergeant in charge of the Street Gang Unit. The gang unit was responsible for identifying and implementing direct enforcement on identified gang members. In addition to enforcement measures, positive alternatives were often created for young gang members as a preventative.
I have testified as an expert witness for the prosecution and defense regarding Possession, Sales, and Transportation of Methamphetamine and Marijuana, and Cultivation of Marijuana. I have also qualified and testified as an expert witness regarding Outlaw Motorcycle gangs, and White Supremacist gangs.
I have been certified by the International Association of Chief's of Police and the Nation Traffic Safety Administration as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) and a DRE Instructor. I was the department’s DRE coordinator for several years and have conducted no less than one thousand drug influence evaluations.
I was an instructor for the California Department of Justice, the California Highway Patrol Academy, the Los Angeles Police Department Academy, and the Sacramento County Sheriff Department's Academy and Advanced Officer Training facility. I have also taught classes at several colleges and national conferences.
My prior law enforcement experience has given me unique insight into developing defense ideas and strategies.
